Valentine's Day Gifts from Mary Kay
Valentine's Day has become the day to show your love. Valentine's cards have been popular for centuries. Today, though, people don't stop at cards. It is a fine tradition to give one's beloved a gift to make her feel special, beautiful, loved. Roses and chocolates have always been popular; jewelry is also a great choice. Another option, however, is to give her something that just makes her feel special - Mary Kay products are just the thing!

This is the true story of a father whose teenage son committed suicide. As he says, such an event often tears a family apart. Devastated, but not defeated, the author describes his journey to find a way to forgive his son and himself. This forgiveness comes through love, and leads to a greater peace than he ever imagined possible, both for himself and his son.

This song, "I'll Stand by You," is a ballad that offers love and support even in one's darkest hour. It has powerful words that stir the emotions, and when you watch some of the music videos, it's even more heart wrenching.

Marmite's the original, obviously the best, no question about it! Or is there? Those who live "down under" have Vegemite.

I love the RocketMoms! I was invited to join Session 4 right when I had just become a Giant Squid. The RocketMoms challenges helped me make my goal of 100 lenses before the end of 2009, so I was able to join the Giant Squid 100 Club. Then I was tired (aren't we all in January) and not sure how many new lenses I'd want to make. Why would I want another challenge? Well, I didn't really, but then I thought, why not!

Cosmic Keychains and Magnets

Cosmic keychains - doesn't that sound exciting? The keychains themselves are regular of course, it's the artwork on them that's cosmic. It seems that keychains are easy things to lose, so these are distinctive enough to be relatively easy to find in odd places! I think you can never have too many refrigerator magnets! Even though we collect them from places we visit, it seems there's always room for more. And good ones are always a delightful new addition! So, how about some cosmic magnets? This lens features cosmic keychains and refrigerator magnets from the Misticmedia Zazzle store - which features the cosmic art of Yuichi Tanabe (yes, he's my husband!).

Bridges of the Hudson Valley

From the Tappan Zee Bridge to the Rip Van Winkle Bridge the Hudson River Valley is simply gorgeous. The Hudson River flows under these bridges, actually in both directions (at different times!) since the river is an estuary with tidal influence all the way up to Albany. We live in Red Hook, which is close to the Kingston-Rhinecliff Bridge so we drive across it on numerous occasions, and the others quite often. Each of the bridges has its own character, and history. So if you haven't visited them in person, check them out right here!

What's Special about Red Hook, NY?

Red Hook, NY is not my hometown but it is my daughter's. She was born in a hospital across the Hudson River in Kingston, but we have lived in the town of Red Hook all her life. Now that she's finished her schooling and has gone off to college, we could theoretically move somewhere else, but Red Hook is special so we want to stay!

How to Drink Japanese Sake

Sake is a very traditional Japanese alcoholic drink. Made from rice in a process that more closely resembles brewing beer than making wine, sake can be enjoyed either hot or cold, and some traditions even involve drinking it from a (small) box!
