There are experiences that stick in a person's mind and stay with them for the entirety of their life, however insignificant they may seem at the time. One of those moments for me occurred one day in the early summer of 1979 in a remote place in northeastern Arizona.

Jewelry Organizers

In need of a jewelry organizer, I looked around online for different options to better organize and store my jewelry. I was surprised at the variety of styles available, many more than I had anticipated finding.

There are wall-mounted jewelry organizers, hanging jewelry organizers, and jewelry drawer organizers and each has their own benefits depending on where you prefer to locate your jewelry and what kind of jewelry you need to store.

Several years ago I discovered Tazo Black Iced Tea, a product that far surpasses any other tea that I have ever tasted!

This tea is made from a perfect blend of black teas and natural flavorings with subtle citrus notes. It is refreshing and bold without any bitterness.

Melting Moments Cookie Recipe

This is one of my favorite cookie recipes. I received the recipe years ago from a coworker and just recently found it again when I was organizing my recipe files. Is is interesting because one of the ingredients is cornstarch which you do not typically see in cookie recipes. They are frosted with a simple lemon juice and powdered sugar glaze that perfectly complements the cookie.

These dish scrubbies are easy and inexpensive to make and are my favorite tool for cleaning dishes and they do not scratch non-stick pans. I have also been told that they work wonderfully on stoneware such as that sold by Pampered Chef.

Quilting Techniques: An Introduction

In its most basic form, quilting consists of three layers, a fabric on top and bottom with a batting layer in the middle. This "sandwich" is then stitched or tied through all three layers to keep them from shifting. Beyond this basic three layer concept, quilting varies widely in technique, and most quilters prefer one technique over another.

This lens is a brief summary of some of the different methods with links to additional information.

Never heard of a spiral vegetable slicer? I hadn't either until a friend recommended it to me. It is a neat little kitchen gadget that cuts various firm vegetables or fruits into continuous slices or spiral julienne strips that resemble thin noodles. With a spiral slicer in your kitchen, you can create all sorts of healthy vegetable based dishes that you and your family will love.

Hawaiian Quilting

Hawaiian quilting is different from other traditional forms of quilting. Originally, the native Hawaiian population was introduced to quilting in the early 19th century by visiting missionaries who attempted to teach the traditional method of piecing. This method however, was contrary to the cultural style of the Hawaiians who viewed the cutting and re-piecing of fabric to be a waste of time and materials so they modified the technique to fit their style. Below, I will explain a bit more about the Hawaiian style of quilting and the customs that have accompanied the development of this unique quilting tradition.
